Belonia, South Tripura: The 47th Kokborok Foundation Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and cultural fervor on 19th January 2025 at Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar College (ICVC), Belonia. The event witnessed the esteemed presence of Shri Sukla Charan Noatia, Hon’ble Minister of Co-operation, Government of Tripura; Dr. Prasenjit Debbarma, Assistant Professor and Secretary of ABRSM Tripura; Dr. Monoranjan Das, Principal of ICVC; and other dignitaries.

The college, which boasts a vibrant Janajati student community with over 2500 UG students from diverse tribes, marks this day annually as Kokborok Foundation Day to honor the rich linguistic and cultural heritage of Kokborok.

This year, the celebration saw participation from nearly 2000 students and 100 teaching and non-teaching staff. A unique highlight of the event was the display of intricate handicrafts and a traditional bamboo hut crafted by the students, which garnered widespread appreciation from attendees.

Event Highlights:

Sobha Yatra:
The day commenced at 8:00 AM with a well-organized Sobha Yatra, reflecting the unity and cultural pride of the community.

Stage Formation:
The formal program began at 11:00 AM, with addresses by the dignitaries highlighting the importance of Kokborok in preserving and promoting the identity of the indigenous people of Tripura.

Cultural Extravaganza:
At 2:00 PM, vibrant cultural performances took center stage. It is significant that on the tune of Kokborok music, raditional dances were performed by communities such as Tripura, Reang, Mog, Chakma, Noatia, Garo, and Debbarma showcased the rich diversity of the region. Notably, the Bengali speaking students with others too participated with Kokborok traditional dance performances, symbolizing the cultural harmony and expressing Tripura’s beautiful diverse heritage.

The event was a testament to the collaborative efforts of the students, staff, and administration, demonstrating unity amidst diversity. With the cultural program concluding at 6:30 PM, the day left a lasting impression on all attendees, celebrating the essence of Kokborok and its role in shaping the identity of Tripura.
