Guwahati: Attending one-year celebration of the BJP-UPPL government of Bodoland Territorial Region at Kokrajhar on Saturday, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commented that BTC chief Promod Boro and his colleagues have taken a new momentum towards development in the region.
Stating that the Bodo Peace Accord, signed in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah, ushered in a new era of peace in the BTR, Sarma claimed that the accord increased the scope and power of BTC to resolve issues related to the Bodo people. He also opined that the BTC is trying its best to protect the socio-cultural, linguistic identities of indigenous people.
He also assured that the Kokrajhar government college will be transformed into a full- fledged university within three years and will set up a Bodoland University campus at Udalguri. Talking about the under-construction Kokrajhar medical college hospital, Sarma expressed hope that it would be dedicated to the nation on 15 August 2023.
The declaration of Raimona reserve forest as a National Park is a positive development for BTR, commented Sarma adding that the laying down of arms by 500 poachers was also a good example. The function was also graced by Union minister Darshana Jardosh, State ministers Keshab Mahanta, Ashok Singhal, UG Brahma, BTC deputy chief Gobinda Basumatary with others.
