Assam CM pays tribute to noted social worker Dipok Kumar Barthakur

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in presence of Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sah-Sarakaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale, attended a Shradhanjali program of noted social worker Dipok Kumar Barthakur at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in the city on Monday and termed his demise as an irreparable loss to the socio-cultural life of Assam.
Paying deep tribute to Barthakur, Sarma commented that he devoted his entire life for betterment of society, development of Assam and building the foundation of Sanatani culture in the region. Barthakur contributed in the formation of various socio-cultural institutions including Vivekananda Kendra, Sankardeva Nethralaya, Sankardeva Sishu Niketan, New Arts Players, Balaji Mandir, Nagarik Bank etc.
Stating that Barthakur was known for his strong nationalistic fervour and was deeply rooted in Indian culture and civilization, Sarma said that Barthakur played a key role in mainstreaming the ideology of RSS in the social life of Assam and institutionalizing this ideology.
The first vice- chairman of State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA) was also instrumental in giving a momentum to this newly created think-tank of the government. Since its establishment, under the leadership of Barthakur, SITA played a crucial role in taking forward the innovative approaches of the government to different sectors, added Sarma.
He also highlighted Barthakur’s contribution as an industrialist which would inspire the young generation. In presence of Uttar Kamalabari Satradhikar Janardan Deva Goswami, Vivekananda Kendra president KA Balakrishnan, RSS Assam Kshetra Sanghchalak Umesh Chakraborty, Barthakur’s widow Indira Barthakur with other dignitaries, Sarma also released the Assamese version of Barthakur’s biography.
