Guwahati: Assam Governor professor Jagdish Mukhi, while stating that Swami Vivekananda represented Hinduism at the parliament of world’s religions at Chicago and projected Hinduism in its right perspective, urges the young generations across the globe to emulate teachings of Vivekananda in order to enable themselves to shape a strong character.
Speaking on the occasion of
Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture’s 25 years celebration in the city on Saturday, Governor Mukhi commented that since its inception the cultural institute has been on the forefront to promote and propagate the culture of northeast India. VKIC is one of the offshoots of Vivekananda Kendra at Kanyakumari and it has been playing a significant role for promotion and preservation of Indian culture, he added.
Professor Mukhi asserted that a nation is built and sustained by its culture as it binds the people. Today as recorded by UNESCO, Indian culture is the only continuing culture across the world. So it is important that every Indian needs to be aware of their cultural traits and maintain faith & pride in it, he added.
The Governor also conferred VKIC Sanman to Namgyal Lepcha of Sikkim and Rothell Khongsit of Meghalaya for their contribution to the preservation and conservation of folk culture. In presence of Pujya Govinda Dev Giri Maharaj, VKIC chairman Joram Begi, its vice-chairman Hanumanta Rao along with a host of other dignitaries, he asked the institute to take initiatives in forwarding the philosophy of Hinduism across the world.
