Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while visiting Silchar just after a gap of two days to monitor the flood situation in the Barak valley on Sunday, declared that arrangements have been made to send one thousand litres of kerosene, adequate volume of vegetables and also animal medicines from Guwahati to the flood affected southern part of the State.

Sarma personally inspected inundated areas including Malini beel, Public School road, Radhamadhab road, Kanakpur, Rangirkhari, Sonai road, Tarapur, etc on Sunday and interacted with the flood hit residents to take stock of their condition. He later chaired a meeting at Cachar district magistrate’s office and gave instructions for providing proper medical facilities, especially to elderly & sick persons, and asked the health department to ensure it.

He informed that 15-20 doctors from Guwahati would be sent to Silchar soon. Directing the concerned department to conduct health camps in each and every municipal ward, Sarma also ordered it to provide medicines to people’s houses at least for the next seven days. In presence of State minister Parimal Suklabaidya, Parliamentarian Rajdeep Roy, legislators Dipayan Chakraborty & Kaushik Rai, Sarma also reviewed the status of electricity supply in Silchar.

The overall flood situation in Brahmaputra valley of Assam has slightly improved as the rain stopped for the last three days. Presently 25 lakh people in 27 districts are suffering from the natural disaster, where over 120 people have lost their lives. Assam State Disaster Management Authority informed that over 2.30 lakh people are taking shelter in relief camps, run by the administrations.
