Mobile app/portal launched correlating Ahom general

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently launched a mobile application/portal (lachitbarphukan.assam.gov.in) at Janata Bhawan in the city correlating with the upcoming 400th birth anniversary of great Ahom general Lachit Barphukan. It has been designed as a platform for the general public to pay their richest tributes to the brave army general in the form of write-ups and essays.

“Open for use by the public, the mobile application is available for use in both Android and iOS operated phones. Residents in the country can sign-in to the portal through a one-time password that will be generated on mobile phone numbers, while those residing abroad can do the same through an OTP that would be sent through e-mails,” said Sarma.

Aim of the portal is to ensure the 400th birth anniversary celebration of Lachit Barphukan, whom Sarma termed one of the ablest sons of Assam, witnesses the participation of majority of the population in Assam and beyond. Moreover, the ideals of patriotism, love for the motherland, as was displayed by the Ahom general are expected to be practiced by the participants, he added.

“On 18 November, all schools, colleges and universities of Assam will organise essay competitions with Lachit Barphukan as the subject among the students within their respective educational institutions. Each and every writing by the students would be uploaded on the portal. Best writings will be awarded at district and State level functions,” stated Sarma adding that the district administrations will also organise week-long relevant cultural, sporting and other events.

He also informed that a grand seminar at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi is scheduled for 23 November, where a book and a documentary on the life & works of the17th century general will be released. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah are expected to grace the concluding function of the year-long tribute next day. The celebration was launched by the then President Ram Nath Kovind on 23 February in the city.
