Guwahati: When a large number of Karbi women observed the International Women’s Day at Kohora river basin near Kaziranga National Park, they celebrated the tribal life and age-old tradition of using natural dye in the fabric by the tribal weavers. The highlight of it was a contest on the natural dyeing process organised by women from five villages namely Rongtara, Phumen Engti, Hemailekthe, Chandrasing Rongpi and Diring.
An interactive session on the marriageable ages for women was also organised where 80 participants batted for 21 year instead of 18. Sashikala Hansepi, who was chief guest of the event, also interacted with the women participants. A tailoring contest was also held along with other competitions. Kareng Rongpipi and Moina Kramsapi shared their inspirational stories during the celebration. Aaranyak, a premier research-based biodiversity conservation outfit in northeast India supported the initiative.
