AIIMS Guwahati, medical colleges at Nagaon, Nalbari and Kokrajhar inaugurated by PM Modi

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday unveiled plaques to mark the inauguration of AIIMS Guwahati and new medical colleges at Nagaon, Nalbari and Kokrajhar in Assam. He also ceremonially launched distribution of 1.1 crore AB-PMJAY cards and laid the foundation stone of Assam Advanced Healthcare Innovation Institute (AAHII) at a function held at Changsari locality of Kamrup district.
After his arrival in the city, PM Modi reached the newly established premises of AIIMS Guwahati in the north bank of Brahmaputra and took a round of the OPD inside it. Modi was accompanied by Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union health & family welfare minister Mansukh L Mandaviya, State health minister Keshab Mahanta, AIIMS Guwahati director Ashok Puranik with other dignitaries.
The first AIIMS in northeast India has been built at a cost of Rs 1,123 crore and it will extend healthcare facilities to people of the entire region. Its foundation stone was laid by Modi himself in 2017. AIIMS Guwahati has a total capacity of 750 (including 30 Ayush) beds. Modi also virtually inaugurated three medical colleges at Nalbari, Nagaon and Kokrajhar locality. A joint initiative of Assam government and IIT Guwahati, the AAHII is expected to promote inventions & innovations in medicine & healthcare as well as multidisciplinary research in the sector.
