Nilachal Flyover opened in Guwahati

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday dedicated the 2.6-kilometer-long two-lane Nilachal Flyover in the city to the service of people. Constructed with Rs 420 crore the flyover starts from Kamakhya temple’s entry gate towards Maligaon township with diversion to Pandu port on the bank of mighty Brahmaputra. Inaugurating the important flyover on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima, Sarma also addressed the public at a venue adjacent to Jalukbari police station. State minister Ashok Singhal, GMC mayor Mrigen Saraniya, Parliamentarian Queen Ojha, legislators Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Atul Bora with a number of dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Congratulating the concerned authorities and agencies for completing the flyover within two years and four months, earlier a forum of nationalist citizens urged Assam government to name it after Devi Kamakhya, the Goddess of fertility, desire and creative power. The Patriotic People’s Front Assam (PPFA) pointed out that Mother Goddess Kamakhya (Kameswari, Katyayani) is also named as Nilachal Basini (having her abode on Nilachal hills). Kamakhya temple is recognized as one of the most revered Shakti Peeths across undivided India, which has legends related to Sati (Dakshayani) and Lord Shiva, added the PPFA.
