Assam Guv proposes teacher exchange program among universities

Guwahati: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, while interacting with the faculty members and other staff of Tezpur University during his visit to the university campus at Napaam on Sunday, proposed to initiate a teacher exchange program with premier universities. Advocating for a holistic educational environment, Governor Kataria argued that such a collaboration will foster comprehensive changes and facilitate the adoption of best practices for superior educational outcomes.
Lauding the teaching and non-teaching members of Tezpur University, he acknowledged the university’s remarkable strides in academic and research pursuits since its inception in 1994. Moreover, the Governor also hailed the university’s impressive rise in national and international rankings.
Talking on the significance of research under the NEP 2020, he asked the faculty members to intensify their efforts in transforming the university into a centre of excellence in contemporary research. NEP 2020, a transformative initiative in the country’s education system, necessitates rigorous implementation and monitoring at the university level to align with its vision. Tezpur University should draft an agenda for other educational institutions to roll out NEP in their management and curriculum, added Governor Kataria.
In alignment with NEP 2020, he called for updating the university’s syllabus to meet contemporary educational standards. Moreover, the Governor reiterated the need for intensified vigilance from the university administration to prevent any mall practices which might defeat the noble agenda of higher education. He also encouraged the university management to ensure frequent interactions between teachers and students to solicit feedback, thereby nurturing a conducive academic environment.
Earlier Governor Kataria attended the valedictory session of the science teachers training program which was jointly organised by Tezpur University and Samagra Siksha Assam. In presence of Tezpur University vice-chancellor Shambhu Nath Singh, registrar Biren Das with other faculty members and officials, the Governor commented that science education plays a pivotal role in society and hence he urged the university authority to train science teachers of the State with a scheduled initiative.
