Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday visited the government-run old age home at Sonapur, run by Monalisa society under the social justice & empowerment department, and presented Aadhaar, Ration, Ayushman and Orunodoi cards to the residents. During the visit, the senior citizens tied Rakhi to CM Sarma to mark the Raksha Bandhan celebration.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarma announced that the State government would issue Aadhaar, Ration, Ayushman and Orunodoi cards to all the residents of old age homes in Assam. Aadhaar cards would allow the people living at old age homes to receive five kg of free rice each month, he stated adding that Ayushman Bharat PM Jan Arogya Yojana and Ayushman Assam CM Jan Arogya Yojana cards would cover up to Rs five lakh in annual medical expenses at government hospitals. Similarly, the Orunodoi scheme will facilitate a monthly deposit of Rs 1,250 into the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
In presence of State minister Pijush Hazarika, legislator Atul Bora, commissioner & secretary of social justice & empowerment department Virendra Mittal and other dignitaries, Sarma also added that the government will take measures to ensure that these residents could access health check-ups at Sonapur civil hospital regularly. Earlier, the members of various social organizations tied Rakhi to Sarma at a ceremony held at his official residence in the city.
