20 families return to Hinduism in Jagiroad

Guwahati: Hundreds of people representing 20 families in Jagiroad of central Assam, who converted to Christianity after temptation, have now returned to Hinduism again. Once they realized their past mistakes, they decided to return to their original religion and pledged to preserve the culture of their ancestors. Mentionable is that the Christianity invaded the cultural sphere of various tribes in northeast India. The missionaries lured the simple tribal population to convert people to Christianity and the process is still going on in some parts of Assam.

In Jagiroad itself, many tribal families had fallen into the trap of Christian missionaries. But lately they have regained their consciousness. Their return has been facilitated by the Hindu religion & culture protection samity. They organised the function at Amchai of Jagiroad to help those people to return back to Hinduism with auspicious rituals.

After the Tiwa traditional Puja was performed, the converts were welcomed to their religion with a Tiwa Gamocha. The program was attended by Tiwa king Suren Deorja, Apurba Deka, personal secretary to State minister Piyush Hazarika, Khagen Chandra Das, nominated member of Tiwa autonomous council, Narayan Kumar Radu Kakati, president of Sadou Hindu Dharma-Sanskriti Suraksha Samiti with others.

Till date, 15,000 people who converted to Christianity were helped to return to Hinduism in different parts of Assam and the initiative is expected to continue in the coming days for the sake of protecting Hinduism.
