Guwahati: As Assam is reeling under flood, State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Palashbari in Kamrup district and took stock of the situation on Sunday. He visited three relief camps, spent time with the flood affected families to take note of the rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures being undertaken by the authorities. Sarma first paid a visit to the relief camp set up at Amrit Chandra Thakuria Commerce College in Palashbari and spent time with 28 flood-affected people taking shelter in the camp. He took stock of the distribution of relief materials like safe drinking water, baby food, medicines among the camp inmates. Later Sarma visited Satrapara LP School at Nahira and talked to some 29 inmates who temporarily took shelter in the camp. He directed district magistrate Keerthi Jalli to ensure adequate distribution of relief materials including baby food items to the camp inmates.
Sarma also visited a relief camp set up at Nahira Guimara High School and interacted with 236 flood affected people taking shelter in the camp. He assured that the government will take initiatives to repair or rebuild their houses either damaged or washed away by the flood water. He also asked the district magistrate to prepare a list enlisting names of the people whose dwelling houses are either damaged or swept away to enable the government to do the needful for their rehabilitation. In presence of legislator Hemanga Thakuria and other officials, Sarma also spent some quality time with the children taking shelter in the relief camp.
