Guwahati: A prime accused in the mysterious kidnapping of city based businessman of Ajit Das was killed in a police retaliatory
action as Kanwaldeep Singh Sidhu tried to flee with a firearm on Friday evening. Sidhu was arrested in Karbi Anglong and the incident
took place while he was taken to the city by a team of Assam police personnel.
The incident took place near Daldali reserve forest of the hills district, where the former officer of railways protection special
force tried to snatch away a police weapon and then fired over the police team. In retaliatory fire he was seriously injured and taken to
the hospital where Sidhu succumbed to injuries, informed Assam’s special police chief GP Singh.
Sidhu faced suspension from his service in 2013 because of illegal activities. Later he fully involved himself in various unlawful works
including the arms-smuggling from Nagaland to other States. He was assisted in the recent kidnapping of Das by three men in uniform along
with a pharmacist (Moneswar Das). Policemen namely Raj Babu Singh (Assam police constable), Jiten
Bailung (forest guard battalion constable) and Suraj Pator (home guard) along the pharmacist were already arrested. They all joined
hands to kidnap Das from Kalibari area near Guwahati railway station on 23 June, who was rescued by the police on 28 June.
