Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Covid19 vaccination drive for children between 12-14 years in the State as part of the national drive at Rukminigaon Balika Vidyalaya in the city. Inaugurating the program, CM Sarma commented that the target group would be provided free vaccination at their respective schools. Those, unable to receive the dose in schools, would be able to take the same in their nearest health centres.
Additionally, all persons above 60 years of age are now eligible for precaution dose, as the condition of comorbidity for this age group has been removed. The third dose (same as the first two doses) is supposed to be administered after 9 months after the second vaccination date. Sarma urged all eligible beneficiaries to come forward to take the third dose of vaccines.
Speaking about the children jabs, he assured the parents that this vaccine is completely safe for their children and there are no side effects. Though children have naturally higher immunity, they must be inoculated to fight against the evolving variants of Covid-9, added Sarma.
Asserting that the State performed well in managing all three waves of Covid-9, he revealed that that 4 crore 36 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered in the State. Sarma appreciated the efforts of doctors, nurses and health workers for making the vaccination drive a success in Assam.
