Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urges all armed militants of northeast Bharat to shun violence and sit for discussions with the government. Sarma asserted that violence would not serve any purpose and the rebels belonging to various banned separatist outfits should come forward for peace negotiations and contribute for the nation.
Welcoming the recent declaration by the outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) for extension of ceasefire for another three months, Sarma personally requested the militant chief Paresh Barua to come for negotiations. He also added that efforts are on to bring the hardliner leader for discussions as soon as possible.
Earlier, Sarma on Wednesday took review of elementary education, secondary education, higher and technical education departments and discussed various issues. In view of the dropout of students, he directed that all lower primary and middle English schools should be merged to prevent the loss.
All infrastructure development issues of the schools would be taken up for the merger with necessary budget allocation, said Sarma, adding that a portal for identifying post-graduate teachers in middle and elementary schools where the teachers would be able to register themselves is coming up soon.
As part of the implementation of National Education Policy 2020, higher secondary classes will be taken out from the colleges at the earliest and he directed to convert 1000 high schools into higher secondary schools in the first phase. He also stressed on the need to fix post-graduation as a minimum qualification for future recruitment of middle and higher education school teachers.
Sarma also directed PWD to urgently submit an estimate of 1162 proposed cluster hostels so that those can be constructed at the earliest. He urged the departments to expedite setting up of model schools and directed to re-verify certificates of all suspicious PHD holder teachers. Later he reviewed the works of the higher & technical education department and instructed the officials to take immediate steps to sort out certain department specific matters.
