Assam CM visits Tipam, participated in Me-Dam-Mephi

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday visited Tipam in eastern part of the State and participated in Me-Dam-Mephi, a grand festival of the Ahom community to worship the ancestors. Sarma along with State minister Bimal Bora, legislators Taranga Gogoi, Teras Gowala and other Dibrugarh district administration officials also offered prayers.

He visited the age-old temple of Chaolung Suikapha situated atop Tipam hills (popularly known as Tipam Deoshal) and also performed the Ahom rituals. Sarma then relished the traditional food offered at the temple and proceeded to attend the cultural program, organised by the district administration.

Swargadeo Suikapha entered Assam through Tipam and Assam is observing the programme centrally here, said Sarma adding that this spiritual occasion will definitely increase the brotherhood, friendship among the people irrespective of caste, creed etc.

“We should try to input the qualities of courage and valor in our minds and try to move forward in the instances that Emperor Suikapha has set for us to turn Assam into a powerful State today and our new generation should also be made aware about him,” said Sarma.

He also mentioned about the export industry that was prevalent during that time, fertile land of Tipam and about the good agricultural production. It is a pride for every Assamese to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Lachit Barphukan. Samadhi which is situated at Charaideo has already been approved by the Centre to be submitted to UNESCO, added Sarma.

He also announced that Sivsagar would be turned into an important tourist site along with Tipam. A grand statue of Suikapha will be constructed on the road going to Tipam, a hockey stadium will be constructed at Naharkatia with an aim to boost the women sports, concluded Sarma.
