Guwahati: Assam Governor professor Jagdish Mukhi and State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma greeted the people on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti. In a message both the heads of State and government paid homage to the Sikh Guru and prayed for the welfare & development of all sections in the society.
Governor Mukhi commented that Nanak-ji in his journey on this planet propagated the message of universal brotherhood and peaceful coexistence. Nanak-ji set up a unique spiritual, social, and political platform based on equality, fraternal love, goodness and virtue, he added.
Prof Mukhi also appealed to the devotees to emulate the teachings of Nanak-ji and spread the message of love, compassion and universal brotherhood and transform the society in to his dream. At the same time, the Governor urged upon all to adhere to the Covid-19 appropriate behavior while celebrating the occasion.
Meanwhile, CM Sarma while visiting Majuli had appreciated the individuals who rescued the victims of Nimatighat boat mishap that took place on 8 September in the mighty river Brahmaputra . Lauding their courage, Sarma handed over cheques of rupees 25,000 each to 50 such brave-hearts.
They acted selflessly to save the victims of Nimatighat boat capsize and their actions will keep inspiring others to work for humanity, said Sarma adding, “I salute the bravery of those who selflessly endeavoured to rescue victims of Majuli boat mishap.” He also informed that several measures have been taken to make inland water transport safer.
Sarma in the same occasion distributed financial aids of rupees 50,000 each to 59 Ras Mahotsav organising committees of the river island. Later, he visited the construction site of Majuli university of culture and took stock of the progress and also inspected the erosion protection work at Luit Ghat.
