Assam Guv visits Patharughat to pay tributes to martyrs

Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya recently visited Patharughat and paid rich tributes to the peasants who fell to the bullets of the British in 28 January 1894. He bowed before the ‘martyrs column’ in reverence to the peasants and remembered their resilience against the arbitrary increase of land revenue.
Paying his floral tributes to the peasants, Governor Acharya said that the spirit of the martyrs and their sacrifice stood as a testament to the unflinching commitment of the people of Assam to act against the foreign dominion. The Governor emphasized that the actions of these martyrs and their revolt against the colonial administration, serve as a powerful reminder of the Assamese people’s steadfast nature and resistance.
“It is a matter of great pride to visit the place and pay my homage to all the martyrs of Patharughat. Their sacrifice exemplified the spirit of our resistance against foreign power. They are indeed a source of inspiration for our present and future generations of people,” said the Governor, who also planted sapling at the premises of martyrs column and addressed it as ‘Ek Per Kisano Ke Naam’, which he said would remind the sacrifice of the peasants.
