Assam: Mineral dealers’ license distributed

Guwahati: Assam government has distributed licenses to 25 mineral dealers under Assam Minerals Regulation and Dealers Rule 2020 in a program organised on Friday in the city. State mines and minerals minister Jogen Mohan ceremonially distributed the papers
The license is issued to dealers of minerals to regulate the possession, storage, trading, transportation and production. The initiative is expected to help the concerned department to check evasion of royalty or seigniorage fee, stopping of illegal mining and transportation.
“Assam is a State full of rich mineral resources like coal, limestone, sillimanite and iron ore. These resources generate huge amount of revenue and many other industries are dependent on these essential minerals. These sectors help in generating employment too,” said the minister.
Earlier, on Thursday over one hundred industrial units from northeast India received registrations under the North East Industrial Development Scheme (NEIDS) 2017. It its 9th empowered committee meeting under the chairmanship of DPIIT secretary, the decision was taken unanimously.
“Till date, a total of 391 new industrial units with a proposed total investment of rupees 2631.19 crore have been granted registration under NEIDS, 2017. With this all applications recommended for registration by various State governments up to 31 October was considered by the committee,” said a government source.
The total incentives envisaged by these 391 industrial units amounts to rupees 1740.06 crore with projected employment generation of 15,987, added the source.
It may be mentioned that with an aim to promote industrialization in the region along with a boost to employment and income generation, the Union government notified NEIDS, 2017 on 12 April 2018. It was
formulated on the basis of suggestions received from State governments, industrial associations and other stakeholders.
