Assam-Mizoram decide to hold regular DC level meeting

Guwahati: Assam and Mizoram have resolved to sort out the inter-State border issues amicably and both the governments decided to
hold regular district magistrate  level meetings of concerned border districts. A joint statement,  issued by both the government
representatives in Aizawl on Thursday, stated their resolutions on necessary measures to promote, preserve and maintain peace & harmony amongst the
people. It may be mentioned that following the direction of Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State agriculture minister Atul Bora and
irrigation minister Ashok Singhal along with responsible government official GD Tripathi arrived in the capital city of Mizoram and held
discussions with the host representatives. Mizoram home minister Lalchamliana, State revenue minister Lalruatkima
along with senior officials represented were present in the meeting where both parties agreed to find amicable solutions to the
inter-State border disputes. Besides sighing a joint statement, representatives  from both the States also addressed a press briefing
in Aizawl. The statement mentioned about the initiative of Union home ministry in reducing tensions prevailing around the inter-State borders and
decided that both the governments ‘shall not send their respective forest and police forces for patrolling, domination, enforcement or
for fresh deployment to any of the areas where confrontation or conflict has taken place’. Mizoram government representatives conveyed their condolences for the
loss of seven lives during the 26 July border clash at Lailapur between the two State police forces and also  wished a speedy recovery
to the injured personnel including the Cachar district police superintendent, who is recovering in a  Mumbai hospital.
