Guwahati: The Union government in New Delhi has summoned both State police chiefs and
chief secretaries of Assam and Mizoram to New Delhi for a thorough discussion over the ongoing border clashes. Union home minister Amit
Shah as already talked to chief ministers Pu Zoramthanga and Himanta Biswa Sarma, who incidentally happens to be the convener of BJP
promoted north east democratic alliance (NEDA), regarding the firing incident on Monday evening.
The inter-State flare up in Assam-Mizoram border resulted in the killing of five police personnel and injuring over 50 others including
the Cachar district police chief Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar, whose injury is understood to be serious and lately he has been shifted to
Mumbai by the air ambulance. Shockingly the violent incident took place within 48 hours of Amit Shah’s visit to northeast India where he even met both the concerned
chief ministers. CM Sarma, who was at Haflong in Dima Hasao hills district, made a tweet confirming the death of Assam police personnel
while safeguarding the constitutional boundary of the State. The deceased were later identified as Swapan Roy (SI), Liton
Suklabaidya, MH Barbhuiya, N Hussain and S Barbhuiya. Critically injured three police personnel, who were undergoing treatment at
Silchar medical college hospital in Barak valley were also shifted to the city by air the ambulance for better medical cares.
Meanwhile, Sarma visited Silchar and paid last respects to the departed souls and wished early recoveries for those undergoing
treatments at Silchar. He clarified that there was no firing from Assam’s side. Sama also declared that the families of deceased police
personnel will be offered rupees 50 lakh. All the injured individuals\ will also be given rupees one lakh each.
Assam police officials revealed that miscreants from the other side started pelting stones and later firing on the police team went for
inspection to Lailapur border point in  Cachar district. However, Mizoram police forces encouraged those elements to continue the fire
attacks. Lately the central reserve police force (CRPF) personnel were deployed at the affected Lailapur-Vairengte disputed areas.
Mizoram home minister Lalchamliana quickly issued an official statement over the clash  claiming that their police policemen only
responded spontaneously to a group of 200 Assam officials when forcibly crossing duty posts. Tear gas grenades were launched at
Mizoram police followed by firing from Assam side, he asserted. Earlier, Zoramthanga twitted a video clipping on Monday, where a Mizo
couple was seen in a ransacked  new vehicle arguing that the innocent couple was on way back to Mizoram via Cachar, but they were manhandled
by ‘thugs and goons’ in Assam areas. Various Mizo individuals claim that those hooligans are suspected nationals (read Bangladeshi
Muslims) taking shelter in border arears.
