CM Sarma assures support to flood affected families

Guwahati: As Assam has been reeling under flood, caused by incessant rains with most of the rivers are following above the
danger level impacting a large number of people, the State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited the flood affected areas of Kamrup and Darrang districts to take stock of the ground situation. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the flood
water has affected as many as 4,290 villages across 32 districts. The current wave of flood has impacted around 31 lakh people out of 1.50
lakh are taking shelter in makeshift relief camps. Till date, over 60 people have lost their lives in flood and landslide related incidents
across the State.

Sarma talked to the flood affected people in various places and assured adequate government support. He also visited some relief camps where the affected families are taking shelter for some days and declared that the district administrations have been ordered to
provide adequate quantities of reliefs along with medical items. He also directed concerned officials of the State water resources
department to repair the breached portion of embankments as soon as the flood water recedes. Sarma promised the families, whose houses are damaged in the flood water, that the administration would support them in reconstructing their homes.
