CM Sarma visits Golaghat murder victim family, assures speedy trial

Guwahati Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited the family members of Golaghat triple murder incident that took place on 24 July. Sarma met with Ankita Ghosh, daughter of Sanjeev Ghosh and Junu Ghosh, both of whom along with her elder sister Sanghamitra Ghosh were allegedly murdered by Nazibur Rahman. Nazibur, who surrendered himself to the police at Golaghat town in eastern Assam, was sent to 10-day police custody by the local court.
Speaking to media persons, Sarma said the gruesomeness of the crime left him deeply disturbed and pained. He said the charge-sheet for the case shall be filed within a period of 15 days and that the trial will be held in a fast-track court so that delivery of justice is not delayed.
Sarma expressed displeasure over the police not properly looking into the allegations that she was being administered narcotic substances by the accused earlier. Had the police acted upon the drugs angle, things may not have escalated to this extent, he added. All possible angles to the case shall be looked into by the investigating agencies.
He also made an appeal to the young female population to remain rooted to their culture and family values. In presence of State ministers Ajanta Neog, Ranjeet Kumar Dass, legislator Biswajit Phukan with others, Sarma added that the triple murder case of Golaghat should be seen in the larger context of sinister designs of certain elements.
