CM urges Tata group for investing in Assam

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday held a series of meetings with officials of Tata group in Mumbai and urged them to come forward for investment in Assam, especially in health, education, green & renewable energy, tourism & hospitality sector.
Interacting with Tata group chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran along with top office bearers from Tata Sons, Tata Consumers, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Technologies, Indian Hotel, Tata Motors, etc Sarma assured that the State government would provide all necessary support including certain policy changes, providing capital subsidy, etc to make it a preferred investment destination.
Sarma also held a meeting with Tata Trust’s vice-chairman Vijay Singh, chief executive officer Srinath Narasimhan, trustees of Tata Trust, etc and apprised the progress of construction works of State cancer institutes under Assam cancer care foundation. Notably, seven out of proposed seventeen cancer institutes in the State are supposed to be ready for inauguration by April.
Later he met Padma Bhushan Subramanian Ramadorai, former TCS vice-chairman and Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati charman to discuss several issues related to TCS,TISS, IIIT-G, etc. Sarma also held discussions with SRCC children’s hospital facility director Rupesh R Choubey, Tata STRIVE’s top executive officer Anita Rajan, Tata Institute of Social Sciences director Shalini Bharat and renowned ENT specialist Milind V. Kirtane virtually.
Prior to these activities, Sarma presented Assam Baibhav award, the State’s highest civilian honour to Ratan Tata, the eminent industrialist and Tata Trust’s chairman at a function, who couldn’t attend the official award ceremony held in Srimanta Sankaradev Kalakshetra on 24 January 24 due to health reasons. Sarma also visited the residence of legendary singer Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar in the city to pay tributes to the Nightingale of India.
