Guwahati: Union ports, shipping & waterways and AYUSH minister Sarbananda Sonowal continues to criticise the Congress party for its
careless attitude to north-eastern Bharat. Assam as well as the northeast was lagging behind in developments because of the
century-old party that ruled the country for decades after independence. Addressing a series of meetings with selected gathering of Bhartiya
Janata Party (BJP) workers and distinguished personalities in eastern Assam, the former State chief minister also asserted that the progress
in the region started as the saffron party led NDA formed government in New Delhi following the general elections in 2014. It was
fast-tracked following the saffron win in 2016 Assam assembly elections. Mentionable is that Sonowal is visiting his home State after being
inducted recently in the central ministry praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his extra cares to the people of north-eastern
region. He compared the commitment of PM Modi with the Congress PM Dr Manmohan Singh, who was a member of Rajya Sabha from Assam, to
distinguish their contributions to NE Bharat. Arriving in the city with a three-day Jan Ashirwad Yatra on Saturday morning to interact and address the saffron workers and other people
in different locations, Sonowal also added that the landlocked region would witness more welfare and development related works in the coming days as PM Modi has been pursuing a big dream for the north-eastern people. Sonowal on the last day of his interactive journey on Monday attended a number of meetings in eastern Assam localities like Demow, Jorhat, Mariani, etc, where he prayed at historic Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar,which established by Mohapurus Shrimanta Shankardev’s prime disciple Sri Sri Madhabdev in the fifteen century to spread the message ofspirituality and harmony. Accompanied by another central minister Rameshwar Teli, BJP Parliamentarian Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, saffron legislator Hitendra Nath
Goswami with other party leaders, Sonowal also visited the residence of recently deceased former Mariani legislator Alok Kumar Ghosh and
offered his Shraddhanjali. Earlier, he visited Batadrava, the sacred birthplace of Gurujona in Nagaon locality. While addressing public meetings, Sonowal in presence of Assam BJP
president Bhabesh Kalita praised incumbent State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for bold offensives against the menace of drugs to
save the future generation. Sarma, who completed 100 days in office recently, expected more from the central government for the benefit of people in Assam and other north-eastern States.
