Guwahati: A life-size statue of India’s first President Dr Rajendra Prasad was unveiled on Friday at Raj Bhavan of Assam on the occasion of the 137th birth anniversary of the Bharat Ratna awardee stalwart personality. Governor Jagdish Mukhi in presence of State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, first lady of the State Prem Mukhi, Rajendra Prasad’s granddaughter Tara Sinha, etc unveiled the statue and commented that Rajendra Prasad was a source of inspiration to every citizen of the great nation.
Moreover, his distinguished contributions in nation building, legal acumen and noble ideals on democracy will continue to inspire the countrymen, added the Governor further saying that Rajendra Prasad was an ideal leader and his humbleness & erudition will always be an inspiration for the younger generation.
“We are grateful and proud to the freedom fighters who gave us a free India. Among them is the legend Dr Rajendra Prasad who contributed every bit for freedom and justice and led the nation to growth and prosperity,” said Governor Mukhi while paying rich tributes to the great soul adding that Rajendra Prasad personified humility and lived by the simple living & high thinking principle.
Speaking on the occasion, CM Sarma described that after 2014, the government is trying hard to establish the efforts of all the freedom fighters, who somehow went into oblivion. He commented that installing the statue at Raj Bhavan is a noble initiative to honour Dr Prasad, whose knowledge on law and democracy lead India to gain a comprehensive Constitution of all time.
Rajendra Prasad’s granddaughter recalled her grandfather and stated that he was a multifaceted personality and an institution in himself. Tara Sinha lauded the efforts of the Governor for having taken the initiative to install the statue of her grandfather, which is sculpted by Assam’s renowned artist Biren Singha, and expressed happiness to have been invited for the program.
