Gauhati University platinum jubilee celebrations begins

Guwahati: Assam Governor professor Jagdish Mukhi inaugurated the platinum jubilee celebration of Gauhati University (GU) at the university premises in Jalukbari locality of the city on Saturday. The year-long celebration will come to an end on 26 January next year.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Mukhi said that embarking into the platinum jubilee year, the pioneer education institution would continue providing excellent education along with policy inputs in geostrategic areas. The GU’s academic exchange programmes and partnerships with the universities of several neighbouring countries continue to be the way for the nation’s Act East Policy.
Paying rich tributes to its legacy, the Governor commented that GU is the place where the future is being visualized as the affordable education brings students from all sections of society to study and realize their ambitions. He remembered the contributions of visionaries including Gopinath Bordoloi, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed, Madhab Ch Bezbaruah, Bhubaneswar Barua, Krishna K Handiqui with others in shaping the university.
The university has been known for fine scholarship and strong values, good work ethics and a desire to reach the zenith. It has public representatives, creative writers, performing artistes, eminent lawyers, scientists, journalists, administrators and legislators among its alumni, which is a fine example for coming generations of students to follow.
“With the implementation of NEP 2020, it opens up new vistas for the university to pursue and perform. Gauhati university should strive to become an institution that is proactive in addressing contemporary issues like climate change through its research and provide holistic, good quality education for all its citizens,” said Governor Mukhi.
In presence of GU vice-chancellor professor PJ Handique, faculty members and students along with other dignitaries, the Governor expressed optimism that the university has a great future. The university is poised for a significant transformation. He also added that the university will develop itself as a vibrant centre for exchange programmes and set up collaborations with eminent institutions across the globe to become one of most sought after centres of excellence in the region.
