Global Tiger Day program organised at Manas

Guwahati: Assam environment & forests minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Saturday attended the Global Tiger Day program at Manas National Park & Tiger Reserve in Baksa district under BTR in presence of Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and other dignitaries. Lauding Manas forest reserve authority for its tiger conservation efforts, Patowary commented that tigers are an indicator of the overall wellbeing of the ecosystem.
A healthy tiger population indicates healthy forests, clean air and clean water, stated Patowary adding that with consistent measures Manas could double its tiger population and it was honourd with the conservation excellence award in 2020 by the Global Tiger Forum. Manas doubled its tiger numbers from 28 in 2018 to 57 in 2022, added Patowary.
In presence of BTC chief Pramod Boro, State minister UG Brahma, legislator Jayanta Basumatary and other dignitaries, Patowary stated that deforestation will result in extinction of wildlife and different species. He also reiterated the government’s commitment to increase forest cover by two percent and urged the locals to consider Manas as their own.
