Infrastructure projects for Jorhat launched

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday launched the Jorhat leg of development fortnight christened Bikashor-Babe-Eta-Poshek at the historic Jorhat court field. The initiative included bhumi- pujan and laying foundation stones of 17 projects involving a financial outlay of Rs 853.1548 crore. Mentionable is that the State government is observing a fortnight of development initiatives in 11 districts with laying of foundation stones for new projects and inauguration of completed ones involving the total financial outlay of Rs 15000 crore. The initiative was approved by the State cabinet last month and the second phase is scheduled to begin in January.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarma commented that the rich socio, cultural and academic prowess of Jorhat should be allowed to sustain in future. Once completed, all the projects would add a new momentum to the eastern Assam district’s development along with it’s peripheral areas. Reiterating the government’s commitment for the development of Assam, Sarma stated that with an aim to enable the environment the culture of protest-demonstrations should be discouraged.
In presence of State ministers Ajanta Neog, Pijush Hazarika, UG Brahma, Keshab Mahanta, Ranoj Pegu, Bimal Bora, Nandita Garlosa, Parliamentarians Tapan Kr Gogoi, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, legislators Hitendra Nath Goswami, Renupama Rajkhowa, Bhabendra Nath Bharali, Rupjyoti Kurmi and other dignitaries, Sarma promised that the Lachit Maidam memorial cultural project (involving Rs 14982.54 lakh) would be completed within two years and the freedom fighter’s memorial park (Rs 13491 lakh) at Jorhat central jail to be ready on scheduled time.
Other projects included in the initiative are the Jorhat-Komarbondha road for Rs 26905.16 lakh, flyover at Komarbondha over the rly line for Rs 7827.12 lakh, an integrated DC office for Rs 4961.57 lakh, district sports complex for Rs 5000 lakh, Bapuji mini stadium at Mariani for Rs 1078.40 lakh, Teok campus of Assam Women University for Rs 2851.28 lakh, Gomdhar Konwar cultural complex Rs 25 lakh, upgradaton of three Jorhat ITIs into the centre of excellence for Rs 1510.92 lakh, a silk college at Titabor for Rs 2241 lakh.
