International Yoga Day 2022 observed in Northeast

Guwahati: After two years of low key celebrations because of the Covid-19 pandemic, International Yoga Day 2022 was observed in all eight north-eastern States on Tuesday, where the Governors, chief ministers, other ministers (both Union and State), government officials, defence personnel and common people participated in high number.
The 8th Yoga day was observed with the theme ‘Yoga for Humanity’ today with full zeal and enthusiasm at the North Eastern Council secretariat in Shillong too. An essay writing competition on ‘Benefits of Yoga in today’s time’ was held where the officers and staff of NEC participated.
The auspicious day was also observed at Ronghar, Majuli (Assam), Ramkrishna Mission (Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya), Golden Pagoda, Tawang (Arunachal Pradesh), Kisama village (Kohima, Nagaland), Neermahal palace ( Sepahijala, Tripura), Loktak lake (Bishnupur, Manipur), MG marg (Gangtok, Sikkim), R Dengthuama indore stadium (Aizawl, Mizoram) and many other important places.
Raj Bhavan in the city also celebrated the day where Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi along with the First lady, other officials and yoga enthusiasts from different organizations took part in it. Governor Mukhi said in his speech that Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition which Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded to make it a global phenomenon.

“Yoga has always been our unique way to remain fit. It has immense potential in enhancing the physical and mental well-being of humankind, making one’s life healthy and purposeful,” said the Governor, adding that Yoga should be kept as a part of everyone’s routine. In order to get the optimum benefit of Yoga, one has to dedicatedly practice it, stated Governor Mukhi.
