The National Investigation Agency (NIA) took into custody a gold merchant from Coimbatore in connection with the high profile gold smuggling case.
The arrested has been identified as Nandakumar from Pavizham Street in Coimbatore. The NIA suspects that the gold smuggled through Thiruvananthapuram airport reached Nandakumar. A 4-member team headed by DSP Shoukathali had raided the residence of Nandakumar on Wednesday at 6 in the morning. After the raid, Nandakumar was taken to the NIA office at Race Course in Coimbatore for further interrogation.
According to the statement of the locals, Nandakumar became rich in short notice. The NIA suspects that he managed to accumulate wealth through gold smuggling.
Probe leads to Malayalam film industry in gold smuggling, money laundering, drug cases
Kochi. In a major advancement, investigation into money laundering, gold smuggling and drug cases is now leading to the Malayalam film industry. The State Special Crime Branch has sent a letter to the Film Producers’ Association seeking details of the films from January 1, 2019.
The letter demands information on actors, remuneration given to them and the total amount spent. It has also ordered for immediate reply by the producers.
The investigation team will probe into whether black money was laundered in the name of movie production.
