
Guwahati: Assam police personnel continue their mission to nab the activists belonging to the outlawed radicalized outfit Popular Front of India (PFI), which aims to convert India into an Islamic nation by 2047. Two leaders of PFI and one belonging to its student wing, Campus Front of India (CFI) were picked up from Barpeta in western Assam on Saturday.
The State police source informed that arrestees include PFI State president Abu Sama Ahmed, its secretary Zakir Hussain and CFI leader Shahidul Islam. Police personnel also recovered some documents (related to Social Democratic Party of India), four mobile phones and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash from their possession. Till date, over 150 individuals linked to the PFI have been arrested.
The Union government in September 2022 banned PFI for five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act following their illegal activities challenging India’s integrity and sovereignty. Some of its affiliates namely CFI, All India Imams Council, National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation, National Women’s Front, Empower India Foundation, Rehab Foundation Kerala were also outlawed.
