Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while interacting virtually with the government heads of eight north-eastern States on Tuesday over the Covid-19 situation, appreciated the concept of micro-containment zones to avoid the total shut down in various localities, where both the economy and corona fight may sustain simultaneously.
Participating in it, Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma briefed PM Modi about various precautionary measures adopted to contain the spread of novel corona virus. He informed that the State government in Dispur was following the testing-tracking-treatment strategy to contain the pandemic by declaring more than 6000 micro-containment zones without applying total lockdown.
CM Sarma also highlighted the importance of containing the pandemic in tea garden areas of Assam, where the government continues its efforts to vaccinate tea garden population at the earliest along with other measures. He informed about status of medical oxygen production, ICU beds, oxygen beds, isolation wards etc as part of the corona treatment infrastructure.
Expressing confidence that the Assam’s positivity rate would be brought down to below 1% very soon, Sarma also requested PM Modi during the video conference in presence of Union home minister Amit Shah, Union defense minister Rajnath Singh, Union health & family welfare minister Mansukh Mandaviya, DoNER minister G Kishan Reddy etc, to increase the allotment of vaccines to the State so that the target can be achieved at the earliest.
