Guwahati: Assam’s very own Lovlina Borgohain is fighting in Olympic Games on Wednesday for Silver/Gold medal, after ensuring a Bronze in
boxing category. She thus became the first Assamese to secure a medal in the history of 125 years of Olympic Games.
In an attempt to pray for the boxer, a lighting program was organised at Nehru Stadium on Tuesday evening, where State chief minister Dr
Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present. Sarma said that everyone is wishing Lovlina for the semi final to be played at 11 am (Indian
time). State sports minister Bimal Bora, information minister Pijush Hazarika, urban development minister Ashok Singhal, revenue minister
Jogen Mohan along with several office bearers of Assam Olympic Association and sports enthusiasts were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Sarma visited Sri Sri Patbausi Satra in Barpeta locality of western Assam, which is enriched with the sacred memory of Jagatguru
Shrimanta Shankardev. He reiterated the government commitment to protect every monastery related to Gurujona’s life and creations across Assam.
He also added that Shankardev’s birth place at Bardowa (Batadrawa) in Nagaon locality has also been protected and developed as a tourist
destination. Interacting with the Satradhikar (head of the monastery) Bhaskarjyoti Goswami, managing committee members and
devotees there, Sarma revealed various government initiatives for preservation of Satriya culture for the future generation.
State industry minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Narowa Satra’s Satradhikar Debananda Devagoswami, Sundaridiya Satra’s
Satradhikar Janardan Adhikari, Kumarkuchi Satra’s Satradhikar Ratnakanta Adhikari with other dignitaries were also present
during Sarma’s visit to the holy place.
