Sonowal graces Dibrugarh University sports week

Guwahati: Union ports, shipping & waterways and Ayush minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday graced the opening ceremony of 52nd varsity week in Dibrugarh University in eastern Assam along with sports-icon MC Mary Kom, DU vice-chancellor Lilakanta Nath and other dignitaries.
Since its inception, DU has been the guiding beacon of excellence in upper Assam, commented Sonowal, who happens to be the former State chief minister and a lawmaker from Dibrugarh Lok Sabha constituency. He assured support for setting up of a herbal garden and research centre at the university campus.
Sonowal appreciated the lush green environment of the university campus and lauded the achievements of its students in different fields. He spoke about the scientific validation of India’s traditional systems of medicine and how the rich biodiversity of Northeast can be explored to push further growth of the region.
“Economy and ecology, humanity and technology have to walk hand in hand to build a better future,” commented Sonowal. He praised Mary Kom as being a mother of three to win six world medals and emerged as an inspiration to everyone in the world of boxing.
