Sonowal joins 100 professionals for planting saplings

Guwahati: Union ports, shipping & waterways and Ayush minister Sarbananda Sonowal joined 100 doctors, engineers and government officials recently to plant 100 medicinal plant sapling with proven medicinal properties by the south bank of mighty Brahmaputra river in Pandu port.
“In Assam, we are blessed by the natural bounty provided to us by the almighty. But, we must preserve and conserve them in a way that allows us to prosper without causing harm to the environment. We are taking steps to re-energize our national waterways for both passenger and cargo transport,” said Sonowal while addressing a select gathering on Sunday.
He added that the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is to replenish the inland water way so that the growth & progress are both economical and ecologically sustainable. We must realize that we have only one earth and take steps for preservation and conservation of our environment, he asserted.
Speaking about medicinal plants, Sonowal revealed that Assam is blessed to have a host of medicinal properties which can enrich the quality of lives. We must celebrate this gift from God and promote planting of such medicinal saplings that not only adds to green cover but also helps us heal from many illnesses, stated Sonowal.
Highlighting the relevance of studying soil crisis, Sonowal said that India is taking global leadership to tackle the challenge of climate change. Led by PM Modi, responsible environmental action is driving India’s green initiatives to make the world a better place. Sonowal also admired spiritual personality Sadhguru for embarking the journey of 30,000 kilometer across 27 countries in 100 days to make people aware of the crisis and save soil.
