Union minister Piyush Goyal interacts with tea stakeholders

Guwahati: Union commerce & industry, consumer affairs, food & public distribution and textiles minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday participated in Janajati Gaurav Divas, organized by Kalyan Ashram at Haryana Bhawan in the city.
Goyal in his speech highlighted the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on uplifting the tribal population in the country. He apprised that these initiatives have been taken to provide a platform for the tribal communities to present their talent in various fields and lay out a roadmap for their all-round development.
The week-long celebration is dedicated to tribal communities of India, which commenced on 15 November and continues across the country with full enthusiasm throwing light on different colours of tribal culture.
“15th November is the birth anniversary of legendary tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda and the festival will be celebrated every year as Janajatiya Gaurav Divas. Various programs are being organised across the country to honour the legacy of Birsa Munda, who till now remained the unsung heroes of India’s freedom struggle,” said the minister.
Later today, Goyal had an interactive session with stakeholders of the tea industry and Laghu Udyog Bharati of the region. He spoke about various issues including MSP for tea leaves, different agricultural benefits for small tea growers, higher number of large-scale bidders at the tea auction etc.
