Guwahati: Assam Governor professor Jagdish Mukhi visited Rabindranath Tagore university in Hojai on Wednesday and took stock of the academic & development works of the prestigious educational institution. Governor Mukhi held a meeting with vice-chancellor professor Amalendu Chakrabarty, the registrar, faculty members, administrative staff with others and reviewed the activities currently being undertaken in the university.
It may be noted that the university, being very young, has undertaken several key works for the students and faculty members. Professor Mukhi also reviewed the academic activities and emphasized on introducing courses and research works in sync with the rich literature and cultural heritage of Assam. He made it clear that in the wake of rolling out of National Education Policy 2020, the university needs to reorient itself to impart its academic activities in compliance with the policy.
Terming the NEP 2020 as a revolutionary initiative undertaken by the Union government for a complete overhaul in the higher education landscape of India, the Governor also took the feedback from the teaching fraternity about their orientation for the implementation of the NEP. He also sought their cooperation for implementing all the provisions of the NEP for the benefits of student’s community.
Professor Mukhi also inaugurated a Riddhi Bhawan and visited the proposed site for constructing the university’s permanent campus. He said that since the university is at its nascent stage, special efforts are required from the university fraternity to make its presence evident in the higher education landscape of the State. All assistance and support will be provided from him for the university to live up to the mandate for which it was established, he assured.
Earlier, the Governor visited Nowgong college and held a meeting with the principal and other faculty members.
