Curtain-raiser to celebration of National Calendar organised

Guwahati: On the auspicious occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, Vijnana Bharati in association with the Union ministries of culture and earth sciences, department of science & technology, council of scientific & industrial research, Madhya Pradesh council of Sc & Tech, etc has planned to celebrate Indian National Calendar at all-India level.

The initiative, under which a two-day conference and exhibition are scheduled for 22-23 April 2022 (2-3 Vaisakh/Bohag 1944) at Ujjain and Dongla, has been supported by various scientific organisations like IUCAA, IIA, Vikram University Ujjain, IIT Indore, etc along with social scientific organisations including Rashtriya Dindarshika Prachar Manch.

It may be mentioned that Indian National Calendar is a scientific expression of Bharat’s identity and was adopted constitutionally by the Parliament in 1957. This was an obvious gesture of restoring the country’s identity soon after gaining independence. However, it remained unnoticed in the people’s psyche for decades.

To popularise the event, a curtain-raiser program was conducted on Wednesday at Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. State science & technology minister Keshab Mahanta graced the occasion as its chief guest, where Vijnana Bharati’s national organising secretary Jayant Sahasrabudhe, IITG director TG Sitharam, State pollution control board chairman Arup Kumar Misra, institute of advanced study in Sc & Tech director Asish Kumar Mukharjee, etc were present.

“The curtain raisers are expected to make young people aware of the Indian National Calendar. An online registration for participating in the event is also created at http://bharatcalendar.in. The selected participants will be given an opportunity to join the conference at Ujjain. An exhibition relating to the theme, panel discussions, lectures and observation sessions will also be the part of the conference,” said a Vijnana Bharati statement.
