Guwahati: The Bhumi Puja for construction of a 1.4 kilometre long four-lane flyover from Diphu stadium to Diphu head post office on Lumding-Dimapur road having two-lane extended arm on Diphu civil hospital road was performed on Friday.
State chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while taking part in the program at the headquarter of Karbi Anglong district, revealed that this project will be carried out by the public works department (roads) with an estimated amount of rupees 243 crore. Once completed, it is expected to give yet another boost to Assam’s fast growing road infrastructure while significantly easing out traffic congestion at Diphu town, he added.
Sarma later distributed appointment letters to 884 TET qualified teachers on regular and contractual basis in various categories under Karbi Anglong autonomous council in a function held at Joysing Doloi auditorium. He also ceremonially distributed one time insurance premium to DIPR registered and recognized 32 media persons and financial assistance to 34 eminent writers to the tune of rupees one lakh each of the district. Additionally, Sarma distributed financial assistance to the tune of rupees 50,000 each to the families of deceased journalists.
Sarma in his speech urged the teachers to be accountable to the society as they are entrusted with the great task of developing human resources. He said that though since 2012-13, the government has recruited several thousand TET qualified teachers and many have been appointed in Karbi Anglong, academic condition has not much improved. The situation in Karbi Anglong is no different, asserted Sarma adding that teachers who don’t go to school and show negligence to their duties are enemies to the society.
In presence of KAAC chief Tuliram Ronghang, State minister Jogen Mohan, State legislative assembly deputy speaker Numol Momin, Parliamentarian Horen Sing Bey, legislators Bidya Sing Engleng, Dar Sing Ronghang, Rup Sing Terang, etc Sarma made a call to the people to keep a vigil on the performance of teachers so that they carry out their responsibilities with utmost commitment. He observed that Karbi Anglong has all the resources, but what is required the most for its fast development is quality education and better academic opportunities as education teaches us equality and leads us to development.
