Guwahati: Assam Governor professor Jagdish Mukhi and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma extended greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of Bohag (Rongali) Bihu and Assamese New Year. Sarma in a statement said that Rongali Bihu brings new hope and possibility, which also reinforces our age-old bond of unity and camaraderie.
He wishes that Bihu festivities give a new impetus to peace, progress and prosperity among all sections of people in the State. Sarma also urged the people to take a pledge on this occasion to commit themselves for welfare of all and overall development of Assam.
Meanwhile, Sarma along with Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia inaugurated the first ever Redbird flight training academy at Lilabari airport in eastern Assam and dedicated it to the service of students on Tuesday. It is one of the nine flight training organizations started in the first phase under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Sarma termed the day as a historic day for Assam as after seven decades of India’s independence a flying training organization is built and inaugurated in the north-eastern region.
He thanked Union minister Scindia and the management of Redbird flight academy. Earlier the north-eastern students and aspiring aviators had no option for flying training, but now with the inauguration of Redbird academy they can complete their entire training while being close to their homes. It will provide exposure to the youth towards alternative career options in the vast field of aviation, added Sarma.
Stating that Lilabari airport is an important corridor to the region, Sarma pointed out that it now has connectivity with Passighat, Dibrugarh, Tezu, Itanagar, etc. The connectivity remains a major bottleneck towards development of the region, however with the NDA government in power, this issue has been addressed to a great extent. He stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi after taking charge of the country took keen interest in improving air connectivity in the region.
Scindia, while speaking on the occasion, opined that inauguration of the academy will open the doors of progress and prosperity in the region. He also added that the ministry is taking steps for setting up modern heliports at Galeki and Nagaon, besides connecting Guwahati with Hanoi, Bangkok, Dhaka, Kathmandu under UDAN international. Union minister Kiren Rijiju, Parliamentarian Pradan Baruah, legislators Manab Deka, Amiyo Kumar Bhuyan, Bhuban Gam and a host of dignitaries were present in the function.
