Guwahati: Coming down heavily on the opposition Congress & Left parties as their misrule used to bring dark days to the people of Tripura, Union ports, shipping & waterways and Ayush minister Sarbananda claimed that the electors now want peace and development. Campaigning for candidates nominated by Bharatiya Janata Party for the forthcoming State assembly elections, Sonowal asserted that the saffron party has transformed Tripura through various economic activities.
“Tripura has been a witness to the dark days of misrule by the Congress and Left parties which made our beautiful Northeast as one of the least developed regions in India. To overcome the decades of economic depredation, social alienation & political unimportance was a mammoth task. But, this was turned around as the BJP government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi took this challenge to transform the region into a developed one,” said Sonowal while addressing a rally on Sunday.
He also added that Tripura, along with other NE States, came out from the annals of its dark past, to reclaim the lost glory in a short time. The effervescent people of Tripura are working with the BJP government to take their agri produce or their rich cane work to the world market. Their mood is clear that is to continue this historic journey of transformation for the betterment of the region onto building a new India, stated Sonowal.
Addressing the concerns of marginalised communities, Sonowal said that the BJP had always respected views of the tribal communities as the party’s commitment to the welfare of the marginalised section in the society can be gauged from the fact that the first ever ministry for welfare of tribals was carved out by the Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This belief is being ably carried forward under the Modi government as the budget allocation to address the concerns of tribals in the country has been enhanced to a record one lakh crore this time, he mentioned.
