CM launches book on PM Modi, emphasises on translating it into Assamese

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched ‘Modi@20: Dreams Meet Delivery’ at a function held at Sankardev Kalakshetra in the city on Saturday. Published by Rupa Publications India, the book reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s model of governance, which has touched the lives of a cross section of the people.

Mentionable is that PM Modi completed 20 years in 2021 as the head of government from becoming CM to PM. He became Gujarat government chief in 2001 and remained in that post till he became PM of the largest democracy of the world in 2014, then again got re-elected in 2019. In the honour of this feat and in acknowledgement of this unrelenting tenacity, the book witnessed the State wide launch in Assam.

Penned by eminent author-intellectuals like Nandan Nilekani, Sudha Murty, Sadguru, PV Sindhu, Amish Tripathi among others, the book is an anthology of chapters elaborating and depicting the fundamental transformation that India has gone through under the leadership of Modi as the head of the government in the last 20 years.

CM Sarma termed the book as incredible which encapsulates the journey of the last two decades of PM Modi as the head of a democratically elected government. He also added that the book is an informative historical document of contemporary India. After taking over the reign of office on 7 October 2001, Modi unleashed a new model of development termed as Gujarat model in the country, stated Sarma.

“Bringing a turnaround in all sectors including agriculture, Modi projected the Gujarat model as a success story before the world. After being in CM’s office for nearly four terms, he, with blessings and support of all sections of the people in India, became the PM. Before 2014, no government in New Delhi came to power with a majority. However, ending this phenomena, Modi made the turn around as the BJP-led NDA government came to power with a thumping majority,” added Sarma.

He also elaborated that there were coalition governments in India for twenty-five years (1989 to 2014). All the governments had a policy of compromise for political interests. It created disappointment among the common citizens. Government’s weak stand against terrorism hampered the national interest. Such an environment crippled people’s hopes and aspirations. Their morale was low. In such a backdrop, as a symbol of new hope Modi emerged as the new hope in the national landscape.

In presence of State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, veteran journalist DN Chakraborty, Padmashree Illias Ali, acclaimed sports personalities PV Sindhu, Lovlina Borgohain and Hima Das, singer Angarag Mahanta and several dignitaries, Sarma congratulated everyone involved in editing and compiling the book and requested Rupa Publications for taking an initiative to get the book translated into Assamese to enable readers in the State to go through the book.
