Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills brought back curfew and shut down internet services
Curfew have been reimposed after the killing of a Khasi youth aged about 35 by some non-tribals at Ichamati. Identified as Lurshai Hynniewta (a member of KSU), and a resident of Khliehshnong Sohra, died at Sohra CHC on Friday.
The clash between KSU member and non-tribals broke out KSU members who are opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) were holding a meeting with local villagers demanding an Inner Line Permit (ILP) for the entire state at Ichamati village at Shylla during an anti-CAA protests and Inner Line Permit(ILP).
Meghalaya Police said that it was about 3 pm, after the meeting, clashes broke out between KSU members and local non-tribals of the area. The KSU members burnt down a haystack at the market and also attempted to burn a house and the non-tribals reacted by stoning a bus carrying KSU members.”
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and the state government held an emergency meeting with the home minister, DGP and the DC of East Khasi Hills district.
Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills brought back curfew and shut down internet services for an indefinite period of time from 12 noon on Saturday areas under Sadar and Lumdiengjri police stations.
Home Minister Kyrmen Rymbui said on Saturday if anyone is found involved in anti-social activities will not be spared.Two extra companies of Central Armed Police Forces have arrived and four other companies will arrive in a days time to assist the state police.
