Guwahati: Assam starts offering free vaccinations to everybody above 18 years of age as it gets necessary doses from the Centre from Monday
onwards, where on the first day over three lakh persons were vaccinated against the novel corona virus infection related
complications.
State chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the preparedness made by district administrations for the enhanced vaccination
campaign. He took the stock of the preparedness through video conference with the district civil and police administrations along
with health services and other responsible officials. More than two thousand vaccination centers were activated in the State
by the BJP led government, where the vaccination drive in urban areas is beginning on 8 am and continuing till 8 pm with one hour lunch break. In rural areas, the vaccination process continues from 8 am to 1 pm.
Earlier, Sarma on Sunday reviewed the corona vaccination program along with flood preparedness in eastern Assam. Along with the district
administrations, he directed the top health officials to monitor the ongoing works carried out for setting up 30 PICU beds at Assam medical
college hospital in Dibrugarh.
After reviewing flood properness, Sarma directed the water resources department to speedily carry out flood protection activities including
construction and repair of embankments. He insisted on appropriate steps to provide financial assistance to flood affected families and
repairing of damaged houses as well as school, other government buildings under the new financial power delegated to the district
authorities.
