Guwahati: Along with Bharat and the world, the State of Assam also observed 7th International Day of Yoga where Governor professor
Jagdish Mukhi participated in virtual yoga session at Raj Bhavan and State chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took part in a yoga
program at Gerukamukh in Dhemaji district on Monday. Speaking on the occasion Governor Mukhi commented that the yoga
promotes both physical and mental well-being. The yoga practices can promote the holistic health for every individual, he added. Professor
Mukhi on the occasion hailed the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for proposing international recognitions to the ancient tradition in
the United Nations General Assembly in 2014.
The Governor appealed to all not to make the yoga only an annual event but efforts should be made to practice it on a daily basis to attain
healthy body, mind and soul. The virtual session witnessed the participation of over 1000 persons including the members of sports
directorate, police, Marwari Sammelan Guwahati, Hindu Jagaran Manch, All Assam Sikh Youth Association with others.
Taking part in a yoga session at Gerukamukh, CM Sarma commented that yoga which is India’s invaluable contributions to the world boosts immunity, energy and positivity. All these finally help the people tremendously in fighting against the novel corona virus infection. It’s heartening to see that amid the Covid-19 pandemic, people have responded positively in celebrating the day, he added while participating the session with State education minister Ranoj Pegu,
tea-tribes welfare minister Sanjay Kishan, Parliamentarian Pradan Baruah, legislators Jayanta Malla Baruah, Naba Kumar Doley, Manab Deka
etc.
