Guwahati: The residents of Sheanghah Chingnyu and Chenmoho villages under Mon district of Nagaland in northeast India, which is adjacent to Myanmar border recently enjoyed a two-day border area festival under the theme of ‘Bridging the Border’ on 21 and 22 March 2022.
Organised by North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC, Dimapur) under the Union cultural ministry in collaboration with Nagaland art & culture department, the event witnessed the participation of 182 artistes from various States like Jharkhand, Bihar, Sikkim, Meghalaya along with local performers.
The cultural troupes presented Jharkhand’s Chhau (Chhou) folk dance, Bihar’s Jat Jatin & Jhijhia folk dances, Sikkim’s Tamang Selo folk dance and Meghalaya’s Wangala folk dance, while the local Naga troupes presented their rich & eye-catching vibrant folk song & dances in front of the audience where senior government officers Imliwabang Aier and Relise Sangtam were also present on both the days respectively.
As the north-eastern States are surrounded by various foreign nations including Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet (now under China), Myanmar and Bangladesh, the NEZCC, Dimapur had taken the initiative for the people living along international border areas to enjoy and also give them an opportunity to participate in cultural activities. The cultural troupes from other States were additionally given the space for their performances.
