Guwahati: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has offered to provide 78 number of ICU beds at Guwahati medical college hospital
supporting the State government’s relentless fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Meeting State chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday at
Janata Bhawan, IOCL executive director G Ramesh informed that the PSU will provide the ICU beds to strengthen the fight against novel corona
virus infection aggravated health crisis. In presence of State health minister Keshav Mahanta, IOCL officials KV Ramanamurthy, MB Manohar Roy, Diganta Thakuria, etc, CM Sarma
termed it a true example of social responsibility. He said that the support extended by IOCL would be a great help to the corona affected people of the State.
Meanwhile, Assam Governor professor Jagdish Mukhi recently took a comprehensive review of the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the State
and called for widespread testing both RAT & RTPCR and adherence to strict quarantine mechanism to arrest the surging cases of the
pandemic. Taking stock of the corona situation through a video conference at Raj Bhavan with State chief secretary Jishnu Baruah, State police
chief BJ Mahanta, top health department official Anurag Goyal with others, Governor Mukhi said that testing and quarantine mechanism
should be made more strict and intensive. Mentioning that during the first corona wave Assam exemplified its best practices to effectively contain the infection, Governor Mukhi
expressed hope that with the leadership of CM Sarma, the State would definitely script victory against the pandemic with minimum loss of lives.
Speaking about the available treatment facilities including ICU beds, oxygen beds, oxygen concentrators, stock of oxygen and odd hour management, the Governor expressed his satisfaction that if the people at large cooperate in following corona appropriate behaviour, the positive cases in Assam could be arrested. He asked the health department to start testing facilities in places
where people generally assemble like markets, bus stands, etc apart from the existing places like train stations, airports, hospitals etc.
Expressing concern over the escape of many train passengers to avid corona screening, the Governor directed the police department to intensify the guard in railway stations in cooperation with the concerned authority.
