Rape-murder accused shot at by Assam cops

Guwahati:  A young rape and murder accused in Assam was shot at by the cops on duty to prevent him from escaping during the process of
investigation. The State police source claimed that Farouk Rahman, one of seven  accused individuals in the Kokrajhar double rape and murder
case, tried to escape at Salbari locality on Thursday following which the police personnel had to intervein.
He has been admitted at Fakruddin Ali Ahmed medical college hospital in Barpeta with serious injuries.  According to the police, besides
Farouk, Muzammil Sheikh and Nazibul Sheikh were directly involved with the brutal rape and murder of two girls  belonged to the indigenous
Rabha community, who were found hanging from a tree at Abhayakhuti village in Kokrajhar district.
State chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, also in charge of home portfolio, stated that both the girls (aged 14 and 16) were raped,
murdered and then put on hanging to show it as a case of suicide. Quoting top police officer of the special investigative team, Sarma
recently twitted that the concerned case was solved. He earlier visited the residence of victims on Sunday.
As soon as the incident of hanging by the girls relationship of aunt and niece came to light on Friday, sensations prevailed in the
locality. Sarma immediately ordered an expeditious investigation into the  mater. While interacting with their bereaved family members, in
presence of BTC chief Pramod Boro, he conveyed deep sympathy and reiterated that women’s safety remains a top priority for the
government.
